Awaken Youth junior high ministry is for students grades 6 through 8. We meet every Sunday and Wednesday at the service times below, and you are welcome to join adult services at any other time. Junior high services are full of fun! They provide a place to build lasting friendships, relationships with mentors, and include time to meet God in a fresh, real and powerful way.
Awaken Junior High meets every Sunday & Wednesday at the following times.
We want you to know at Awaken Youth Junior High, our goal is to partner with parents to guide youth in their walk with God so they are full of faith, hope and love! We know junior highers should have a specific place for them in the house of God, and hope to see you and your junior highers on Sunday!
Where to go:
Bring your junior higher to church and meet one of our Hi Team members at the front doors. They can direct you to our Jr High room where you are able to check-in and meet the leaders that will be ministering to your kids!
What Happens in Service:
Once they check-in, we will head to adult service for praise and worship together at the front of the altar. Then Jr high will be released to the Jr High room to have a blast and hear a word from God tailored to Jr high ages. The topic preached to Jr high is the same topic in the adult service (again, tailored to their age) so you can have family conversations at home, knowing what was discussed in church. To end service, they meet in their connect groups with their connect leader where they can have deeper conversations and ministry as well as grow relationships with other youth their age and gender.
Every leader in our junior high ministry is background checked and screened. Safety is our highest priority. Our leaders want to connect, point them to God, and help guide your child through these crucial years in growing up. A key to that is building a relationship with you as a parent. We love meeting parents and working together!
Other Events and Meetings:
There are other events throughout the year for our junior highers, including the always popular “Lock-In”. Details for all events will be emailed out and announced. Our High School Ministry meets once a month, however, those nights are only for high schoolers.
Awaken Youth high school ministry is a passionate, city-impacting, youth ministry that brings transformation through Jesus Christ. We meet on Wednesdays from 7-9pm. Follow us on Instagram at @AwakenYouthSD to find out when our next gathering is. See you there!
Awaken High School meets every Wednesday at the following times.
At Awaken Youth we believe that your teen has a God-given calling and destiny. We have a strong desire to bring that calling out and see your teen fulfill the God dream for their life. Awaken Youth is a place where your teen will be developed as a leader in their sphere of influence. We want to partner with you and set your teen up to flourish in everything they put their hand to.
What happens at an Awaken Youth service?
6:30-7:30pm: Pre-party that includes entertainment, music, snacks, and mingling, with the purpose to connect every teenager with a leader and a new friend.
7:30-9:00pm: Service that includes praise and worship, games, an inspiring preach, and ministry time/opportunity to pray for anyone who needs prayer.
9:00-10:00pm: Afterparty with different games, dancing, connecting, DJ, and fun.
Every youth leader over 18 years old is background checked and screened, and we have an average ratio of 1 leader to every 5-8 youth. We also hire an off duty officer (ODO) to supplement our security team. Your child’s safety is our highest priority.
Our leaders are not babysitters, parents, or professionals, but are commissioned to love and lead our youth. We view them more as coaches, exemplifying what it looks like to live a life after God and how to make wise choices.
Why does Awaken Youth play edited secular music?
We play music that everyone can relate to. We DO NOT play any music that is explicit or has any swearing. However, when we stay relevant to the music, we have found it easier to reach unsaved people. To some, the church is a new and uncomfortable place to be. When we play music that they are familiar with, they feel more at ease and more willing to be a part of our services.
Can I, as a parent, come to Awaken Youth?
If you’re curious about what we do, we’d love to have you come to check it out. However, as part of our security procedures, we ask that a security team member accompany you throughout the night.
